The Land App releases a free agroforestry design tool

The Land App have recently released a new digital tool that integrates with their existing platform. The tool allows users to generate automated designs for a specified area i.e. a field, which takes into account machinery width, desired tree functions, and existing vegetation. Pause to Agroforestry Related CS Grants

Defra have announced a pause to several CS grants that are related to agroforestry. Due to high demand they've had to limit new applications for some of the grants that were recently announced.

Specifically, the following grants have been put on hold until further notice:

New Payments for Tree Planting Through Defra

Defra have announced an update to the SFI and Capital Grant payments with particular relevence to agroforestry and tree planting.

EURAF 2024 Report from FWF Bursary Recipient

A highlight of this year has been the EURAF 2024 conference in Brno, Czech Republic. Many of our members attended the event with some presenting too.

Forestry Grant Scheme - Agroforestry

Some changes to the Agroforestry component of the Forestry Grant Scheme in Scotland were published in March 2024.

 

 

Tree species guide for agroforestry in the UK

Spring 2024 saw the publication of 'Tree species guide for UK agroforestry systems'.  This was published by the University of Reading and Forest Research as an output of the 'Expanding Agroforestry' project, funded by the UK government. Follow the link for further information.

LEAF's Exploring Agroforestry

LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) are looking for farmers to take part in a project from March 2024 to March 2025 to explore agroforestry.  Farmers will receive 1:1 support designing and planning the agroforestry system and visit agroforestry sites, a tree nursery and attend two practical sessions.  Applications involve completion of a simple Word document, and close on 1st March at 20:00 hrs.  Contact

Climate Demonstration Farms

A network of 130 Climate Demo Farms will be established in the UK as part of a 7-year EU Horizon project.  The project, coordinated by Innovation for Agriculture, in association with ADAS and Abacus Agriculture, will involve farmers in over 27 countries demonstrating climate smart agriculture.  If you are interested in offering your farm for the project, and receiving benefits including personalised support from a dedicated advisor for 6 years,

Agroecology compared to conventional farming systems - report

The final report on a Cranfield University study for Defra on 'Evaluating the Productivity, Environmental Sustainability and Wider Impact of Agroecological compared to Conventional Farming Systems' has just been published.  There is some consideration of agroforestry in the report. Find the report here.
