13th June – Presentations, lectures and networking at Falkland Centre for Stewardship. Visit to a new apple orchard on the Falkland Estate and visit to Brackmont Farm and Forestry, St Fort Estate, Newport on Tay, Fife DD6 8RE.

The meeting commenced with talks by:
Mike Strachan (Forestry Commission Scotland) – Thoughts on implementing agroforestry measures.
Professor Bill Slee (James Hutton Institute) – Integrating woodland management and farming.
Dr Adam Vanbergen (Centre for Ecology and Hydrology,NERC, Penicuik) – The effects of grazing on plant assemblages.
Matthew Upson (Cranfield University) – Carbon storage in a silvopastoral system in Bedfordshire.
Ewan Nugent (Natural England) – Findings of the recent agroforestry report for England.
Dr Scott Wilson (Consultant Forester and Ecologist) – Summary of research into current and historical grazing practice.
Ruth Mitchell (James Hutton Institute) – Below ground effects of moorland colonisation by birch and pine.
Bob Wilson (Centre for Environmental Living and Training) – Progress with the all Ireland Agroforestry Initiative.
The session was chaired by Brendan Callaghan (Head of Grants and Delivery Scotland, Forestry Commission).
